Amazon.com Review From the Author: Top 5 Camera Features of the Nikon D3200 24.4 Megapixel sensor: The Nikon D3200 has a brand new sensor, a new 2.4.4 megapixel CMOS sensor that offers the highest output resolution for a DX camera (cropped sensor) in the Nikon camera line. The amazing part is that Nikon has increased the pixel count over the D3100 and at the same time has managed to improve on the image and video quality as well. 4 frames per second: In the continuous release mode, the D3200 can take up to 4 frames per second as long as the buffer isn't full. This allows you to capture fast moving action and sports shots easily. I really like to use the continuous shutter release mode which will keep taking photos as long as the shutter button is held down (up to a 100 images in a row). This allows me to capture action shots that I would have missed inthe past. EXPEED 3 processor: The Expeed 3 is the latest image processing engine from Nikon and is the same technology used in the top-of-the line Nikon D4 and the D800. The D3200 takes advantage of this technology both in creating great still images and in the video capture. ISO Range: The D3200 has a wide ISO range from ISO 100 - ISO 6400 and can even be pushed to Hi1, the equivalent to ISO 12,800. Even more impressive is that relatively low amount of digital noise at the high ISO settings. This allows you to use the camera in low light situations without using the built in flash or an external flash unit. USing ISO 100 - ISO 400 will produce images that are virtually noise free and even at the higher ISO settings 800 - 1600 the noise is very low. At the three top ISO settings, there is more noise but even at ISO 6400, the noise can be dealt with in post production and usable images can be taken. HD Video: The Nikon D3200 can shoot full 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second and while the built in microphone is not that great, the D3200 can utilize a wide variety of external microphones that will produce great sound as well as video. Taking video is as simple as pressing the Live View button and then pressing the dedicated video record button located behind and to the left of the shutter release button. When taking photographs of animals and pets, get down on their level it will make for a better image since it avoids the common 'looking down' perspective. I used a very shallow depth of field to make the subject stand out from the background and a long focal length which kept me a safe distance from the dog. View larger. To use the 1/3200 second shutter speed, I used a wide aperture of f/2.8 and am ISO of 400 since it was a really bright day. Using a very long shutter speed allowed me to capture this scene long after the sun had set. The water is rendered as smooth and there is no sign of the waves that were present during the exposure.
